The story
A jujube county in the bend of the Yellow River
Linyi sits in the Yellow River triangle where Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan meet. Abundant light and a wide day-to-night temperature swing give Linyi winter jujube its character: crisp, large, thick-fleshed, and sweet as honey.
Three thousand years, and one decision
Jujube has grown here for over three thousand years, long planted only in scattered plots. In 2002 a village trialled the Zhanhua winter jujube from Shandong; it took, and spread across the county. One village's experiment reshaped a county's industry.
Turning one month into five
Linyi's growers developed eight cultivation structures. The ripening season stretched from one month to five, the market window from two months to seven — not through storage, but by letting fruit ripen at different paces under different shelters.
A certification mark
In 2021, led by the Linyi County Forestry Bureau, "临猗冬枣" was registered with CNIPA as a geographical-indication certification trademark. Authorised enterprises use it in "parent-child" form, alongside their own brand. The name belongs to the land; the quality is proven by each grower.
